In the latest video of the face-off between the two great entrepreneurs, Jack Ma and Elon Musk, talking about Artificial Intelligence and Automation, Jack Ma says that we need to provide our kids with the right education, we need to teach them creativity and critical thinking and human skills. These skills are important because robots are learning and a lot of skills that humans have.

Robots are good with memorising things and they are good with information processing even they are faster than humans. They can perform calculations faster than humans so we don’t need to teach these skills to our children, says Ma.

The First Industrial Revolution mechanized production with the help of steam power. The second industrial revolution used electric power to create mass production. The third industrial revolution brought automation with the help of information technology and electronics.

Over the last decade, we have seen vast growth in the development of machines and automation and the dependence of humans on machines to accelerate work and its quality. 10 years down the line, the world will change completely and 70 to 90% of the industries running today will shut down just because of the technological changes and automation. Welcome to the Fourth Industrial Revolution!

Most of the companies running today are using AI and automation for their work, for example, Uber, Airbnb, etc. Uber has just an app and they don’t even own a single car. So, as the driverless cars come, the whole driving industry will shut down. You will get a car from apps like Uber and in a few moments, a driverless car will be standing at your door. If you share it with someone, then that ride will be cheaper than your bike.

Most of the transactions have gone digital with the help of Google Pay, Patym, Phone Pe, etc. Computers are becoming more intelligent than humans.

But how this Industrial Revolution is linked to Education and Skilling?

So, as Ma said, we need to teach our kids skills that robots can never adopt. As most of the robots and AI are adopting skills that human can perform so learning multiplication table and practising handwriting won’t work.

“We have come to a point where machines have taken most of the jobs leaving humans unemployed.”

But there are certain skills that machines can never adopt which are very human skills and we need them like, communication, negotiation, painting, critical thinking, creativity, leadership, etc. So, the requirement of these skills has increased and our education system needs to focus on the development of these skills. I am not saying that we need to stop teaching the core subjects in schools. An educated society is a healthier society, and we still need to know how to read, write, solve, observe, experiment.

The truth is when students have these skills, you will find that leaning other stuff comes much easier. So we need to teach these things to our children.

Also, if we look it from the industry point of view then, 93% of employers are looking for candidates who are good in communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, are creative, are good collaborators, etc. So, if we work on developing these essential skills then we will have the most important skills for getting hired in future.

Remember:

“The more we surround ourselves with robots and software solutions, the more we will crave for real experiences.”
